For a long time now I have felt there was much more being laid down for Operation Braveheart in the future, and that has been shown so vividly over these last months with the vision for the Haven House mobile support unit.
HAVEN HOUSE will function as a support unit which will be used primarily for supporting our forces bravehearts and hero's who are homeless and on the streets.
It will be there to offer and provide active support to all of our forces who, either of their own volition leaving the forces or who are being put out to grass to fend for themselves in Civvi Street by this Government’s draconian defence cuts and other austerity measures.
We will be getting many areas of support on board from the dept of work and pensions, the NHS and doctors practises through to dug abuse agencies.
The charities we support will be asked to help by providing information and contacts to which we shall be able to have access to via our onboard computer system and satellite connection so we can have direct communication with such agencies and charities.
FUNDING will be critical for the setting up and day to day running of the unit, and I am under no illusion that, given the present circumstances of our country it will be nothing but difficult to get this set up in the immediate future.
This is why we are appealing to the business communities and major companies for their support for our forces to reach this goal.
EACH COMPANY THAT SUPPORTS THIS INITIATIVE WILL HAVE THEIR COMPANY LOGO ON THE SUPPORT VEHICLE
The current economic climate we are experiencing today has had a very big impact on what together we can do in supporting our forces bravehearts and heroes, but it is still the utmost priority that we are able to do something tangible and positive to do what we can to find and support not only our homeless servicemen and women but to also offer help and support to those who are going to find themselves thrown on the scrapheap of the unemployed.
MY COMMITMENT TO THEM.
I remain committed to supporting our son’s and daughters of Great Britain and with your help, together we will do that.
In the foreseeable future a permanent bricks and mortar building is beyond our reach, with the big funding needed unavailable to me at this moment in time, so the alternative and probably an even better course of action is for me to take the Operation Braveheart Haven House project right out into the places I need to be.
THE MOBILE UNIT.
The mobile unit itself will either be a medium size mobile home or a minibus which can be converted to have a table, and a means to provide some light refreshments, and a place to have a computer system to enable us to help our servicemen get on the internet and help them to find sources of support and work..
If we can raise enough funding to get it, the mobile home would be the best option because I will have a source of respite in having some sleeping arrangements to give some overnight respite.
HOW YOU CAN HELP.
AS A COMPANY/BUSINESS WOULD YOU HELP US IN THIS VISION?
I AM ASKING EACH OF THE COMPANIES ETC THAT I APPROACH, TO MAKE A COMMITMENT TO DONATE AN AMOUNT OF SPONSORSHIP FUNDING TO HELP US. IN RETURN YOU WILL HAVE YOUR COMPANY LOGO PLACED ON THE VEHICLE.
THIS WILL ENSURE THAT WE WILL HAVE A STEADY INCOME TO BUY AND KEEP THE VEHICLE RUNNING AND IN GOOD CONDITION, AND TO BE READY TO GO WHEREVER WE ARE NEEDED.
You will have noted that I use the word “WE” I chose that word with care because it is indeed “we” as a team of caring people, you and I working together to help those who protect our country and who protect us as individuals , it is working this way that WE CAN, AND WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
OUR CHARITIES WILL PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN THIS.
The charities we support will play a vital role in this initiative,, we will be asking them to actively support us by giving us hard copy materials and contact numbers and website details.
We are also making contact with Government agencies such as the benefits, and employment agencies, the National Health Service and anti drugs agencies to get them on board with us, as each will have a role to play.
If each one helps to share the load so we can get this support out to our forces bravehearts and heroes we will be able to do so much for so many.
One important resource we will have on the vehicle will be our computer system and mobile phone network so our sons & daughters will be able to use our facility to the full.
One vital resource which we will be carrying on the vehicle will be the life support packs which is an initiative that was set up previously by Operation Braveheart. Here you see just a small selection of the varied items we source from various sources, from the supermarket, to Poundland and to other agencies we find to approach. Also in the run up to Christmas we ask our supermarkets if they will let us place a box instore and we ask shoppers if they would like to donate an item and place it in the box after they leave the checkout.
WE NOW MOVE UP A LEVEL IN OUR SUPPORT.
A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM DAVID.
It has been a long road which I have been traveling these last years since my family suffered the huge loss of a son & grandson in Basra Iraq in 2007, years in which at times I felt very alone but not without purpose, a purpose that burned itself into my very being.
Years in which it was very much a me myself and I organization, but now I am no longer alone for now I have had my long prayers answered and now have seen OUR TRUSTEE COMMITTEE STARTING TO BE FORMED. We will have our central local committee here in Cullompton but also have a much wider committee of friends on face book who are there to offer us support in many areas when we need that support.
As a committee we are now actively pursuing our aim to get recognition from the charity commission to obtain our charity number, this in itself is not without its problems however, the main one being that under the new rules we have to have an annual turnover of £5000.00 which we are not quite reaching at the moment, but it is hoped that when we get company support for our vehicle this will enable us to reach that figure.
THE NATIONAL LOTTERY FUND.
As a committee we have begun to be involved with a local organization based at Tiverton, Devon, aptly named INVOLVE, they have been very helpful to us since we joined them and my chairperson and I spent a day at a charity support conference, held at the Tiverton Hotel which was put on by them, where we learned quite a lot that day.
We are now engaged in contacting the national Lottery to try and get funding to help us get our first vehicle, as we had a meeting at the conference with a person from the lottery who told us we could get funding even though we do not yet have a charity number. We are under no illusion other than it is going to be hard for us as a committee to obtain funding, but if we can carry on with our own fundraising events then we are confident that we will succeed in making this happen.
